Utah Firm Commits to Saving Children’s Lives
On behalf of the team at Kemp and Associates in Salt Lake City, Utah, President Jeffrey Kemp and Vice President Daniel Mannix have donated $10,000 to Hannah’s Hope Fund (HHF, http://www.hannahshopefund.org/). The donation will help fund a clinical trial to treat Giant Axonal Neuropathy (GAN), a rare disease afflicting young children that can be best described as juvenile Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).
The trial will be underway this spring at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, MD. "This clinical trial could have global implications. This novel gene replacement therapy to the central nervous system could have applications to other closely-related neurodegenerative diseases that affect thousands of people every year," says Matt Sames, founder of HHF and father of Hannah.
HHF was inspired seven years ago by Hannah Sames, an 11-year-old girl from Rexford, NY, who is afflicted with GAN. HHF has members worldwide, and is the world’s only 501c3 Public Charity dedicated to developing a therapy for GAN. Private donations from generous companies such as Kemp and Associates have allowed HHF to drive therapy development at a rapid rate in order to save lives.
